In the Spring of 2010 "Amateurs The Movie" will be in theaters everywhere! I am one of the actors in "Amateurs The Movie" and I play the part of a "concession vendor." To see the trailer and other information about "Amateurs The Movie" you can go to http://www.williamfain.com once you get on the page you will be able to get more information as well as see photos as well!

I would like to also take this time to say "THANK YOU" to William Fain, Chris Blanton, Curt Willis and everyone who is connected to "Amateurs The Movie" for giving me a chance. As this is the first time in a movie that an African American Man who has Tourette Syndrome will be in the theater!

This will also give others who have Tourette Syndrome or who do not know about Tourette Syndrome to start asking questions, to be more informed, and for others who have Tourette Syndrome to be given a chance to know that there dreams will and do come true! To also not give up, keep positive and stay away from the negative!

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (Tourette Syndrome or TS) is a neurological disorder which becomes evident in early childhood or adolescence before the age of 18 years. Tourette syndrome is defined by multiple motor and vocal tics lasting for more than one year. The first symptoms usually are involuntary movements (tics) of the face, arms, limbs or trunk. These tics are frequent, repetitive and rapid. The most common first symptom is a facial tic (eye blink, nose twitch, grimace), and is replaced or added to by other tics of the neck, trunk, and limbs.

These involuntary (outside the patient's control) tics may also be complicated, involving the entire body, such as kicking and stamping. Many persons report what are described as premonitory urges -- the urge to perform a motor activity. Other symptoms such as touching, repetitive thoughts and movements and compulsions can occur.

There are also verbal tics. These verbal tics (vocalizations) usually occur with the movements. These vocalizations include grunting, throat clearing, shouting and barking. The verbal tics may also be expressed as coprolalia (the involuntary use of obscene words or socially inappropriate words and phrases) or copropraxia (obscene gestures). Despite widespread publicity, coprolalia/copropraxia is uncommon with tic disorders.

Neither echolalia (echo speech) or coprolalia/copropraxia is necessary for the diagnosis of Tourette syndrome. However, for a confirmed diagnosis of TS both involuntary movements and vocalizations must be present. Echo phenomena are also reported, although less frequently. These may include repeating word of others (echolalia), repeating ones own words (palilalia), and repeating movements of others.

Although the symptoms of TS vary from person to person and range from very mild to severe, the majority of cases fall into the mild category. Associated conditions can include attentional problems (ADHD/ADD, impulsiveness (and oppositional defiant disorder), obsessional compulsive behavior, and learning disabilities. There is usually a family history of tics, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, OCD. Tourette Syndrome and other tic disorders occur in all ethnic groups. Males are affected 3 to 4 times more often than females.

Most people with TS and other tic disorders will lead productive lives. There are no barriers to achievement in their personal and professional lives. Persons with TS can be found in all professions. Increased public understanding and tolerance of TS symptoms are of paramount importance to people with Tourette Syndrome.

The disorder was named for a French neuropsychiatrist who successfully assessed the disorder in the late 1800's:

Georges Gilles de la Tourette (born Georges Albert Edouard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette!) in 1857 was a French physician (today he would be described as a neurologist) who made several valuable contributions to medicine and literature.

The first reported case of Tourette syndrome was by another French doctor named Itard in 1825. Dr. Itard described the case of Marquise de Dampierre, a woman of nobility who was quite an important person in her time. In 1885 Dr. de la Tourette described nine patients with the syndrome of multiple motor and vocal tics. His major contribution was to define these patients as having a movement disorder that now bears his name.

Why is Tourette Syndrome Important To Me:

I am an African American Man who has Tourette Syndrome and has had TS for approximately 20+ years. I live in Tennessee, but I am originally from the Northeast.

I am trying to increase people's awareness in the African American Community, as well as other minority, and non-minorities who do not know about Tourette Syndrome.

Even, if you do not have Tourette Syndrome, do not know of someone who has Tourette Syndrome, "Me And My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD" can give you encouragement in overcoming some of your obstacles.

"Me And My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD", was written not only for people who have Tourette Syndrome, but it was also written to for those who need some motivation, inspiration, encouragement, in still faith, when and if no one else will, help, believe, and push you to succeed!

Me And My Tourette's Motivated By God will hopefully increase the public's awareness and shed new light which most people do not know about Tourette Syndrome.

Most people always associate Tourette Syndrome with swearing (curse words) which is not always the case. People who have Tourette Syndrome do not always swear or use derogatory words, as this is on a case by case basis.

My tics are vocal, and sometimes sounds like a continuous hiccup. They can be loud and are uncontrollable.

I wrote "Me And My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD" because people who have Tourette Syndrome are usually discriminated against from people, associates who you may meet on a day to day basis, family, churches, school, in the workplace, having a place to live, in the general public eyes, etc.

We are people with feelings too, and we are normal just like anyone else and can do anything just like anyone else. The difference between me and you is that people with Tourette Syndrome have involuntary vocal tics as well as involuntary movements of different parts of the body. We want to be accepted, we want to be loved, we want to be a family and to have a family. We want to have friends, we want to go to church, we want to go to school, we want to go to work and we also want a decent place to live as well, including enjoying our lives!

We also want to be accepted as decent and kind human beings! There are people that have Tourette Syndrome, but are not aware that they may have it. Or, they might know of someone that does have it. As well as in the African American Community, other minorities and non-minority groups who do not know anything about Tourette Syndrome.
